JCB Present Long-Standing Customer JC Balls & Sons with Special Edition Tracked Excavator

JCB has built a unique special edition 220X tracked excavator for our loyal customer JC Balls & Sons, to honour the company’s 60th anniversary of opening their business.

The milestone also signifies six decades of collaboration between JCB, TCH JCB, JCB Finance and JC Balls & Sons when Jim Balls founded the company in 1963 with a JCB 3 backhoe loader and had TC Harrison as their trusted local JCB dealer.

TCH JCB were elated to attend the anniversary event hosted by JCB at the JCB Golf & Country Club. The celebration topped off a number of events to mark the historic anniversary, starting with a factory visit to the JCB Heavy Products Factory in Uttoexter, where the JC Balls family completed the handover of their most recent order – JCB 220X X Series tracked excavator.

The machine, however, was unlike anything that has been seen in recent times. Complete with a bespoke custom livery, retro red bucket and bright white cab, this 220X pays homage to the many great machines that came before it. Fitting in with the family history, the exclusive digger has been named Mary after Jim Balls’ late wife – after whom the first JCB excavator in the company was affectionately named.

JC Balls & Sons director Chris Balls said, “Our family businesses have worked closely together for 60 years and we are honoured that JCB and TC Harrison JCB have marked the occasion with this event. Our business has grown and expanded over the last 60 years with their help and support along the way, and long may the partnership continue.

“We are absolutely amazed with this special new machine. Our very first JCB excavator was a JCB 6 with red undercarriage, red bucket and white cab and carried my mother’s name – Mary. So with this styling we’re bringing a little bit of history back.”

TCH JCB would like to thank JC Balls & Sons for their continued support over the last 60 years and we are excited for what the future holds between our two long-serving family businesses.
